Commercial Video Production – Using Camtasia Studio to Edit Videos

by admin on Dec.08, 2010, under Uncategorized

You will find the program if you carry out some research on Google’s search engine. The first result that you will see returned is a page from a company called Techsmith – they are the producers of Camtasia Studio. Select that result and you will have a 30 day free trial of the software so that you can get to grips with how it works and what it has to offer before actually committing to buying the product. It is a very well worthwhile investment though that you will not regret. This amazing program will permit you to produce flash videos that facilitate you to upload them to the internet, such as your web page.

Camtasia allows you to work with several types of files and you can see which ones by opening the program and selecting the ‘import files’ option. To begin the process of editing your videos simply select ‘import files’ and import your chosen files – that includes audio files if you so wish. Adding audio to your edited video helps to make your video even more unique and stand out from the crowd. The audio volume can be edited if need be and it is also possible to add useful features such as the ‘checkerboard’ which permits you to add transitions to your video. When you have imported the necessary files, save your work and then select the ‘produce video as’ option (you will have to choose between ‘recommended’ or ‘custom’) in order to export your work in a variety of formats.

This article will demonstrate the process saving your video as a flash file. Select to save as ‘flash’ and select ‘next’; you can now make several changes to include adding an ‘about box’ or adding a redirect link so that your viewer know where to go after viewing your video. It is simply a matter of highlighting the ‘jump to URL ‘ option under the ‘end action’ tab and specify your website address in that space. Select ‘apply’ followed by ‘ok’ and then select ‘next’. At this point you can also insert a watermark simply by checking the ‘include watermark’ box – select ‘next’. The next step is to save your file to a specific location on your computer and then press ‘finish’. You will need to wait a few moments while Camtasia renders the project and makes it available for you to view.

Camtasia allows you to insert a link to your movie and to do this simply open the ‘production folder’ and locate the folder you created. This folder needs to be prepared for uploading online so ensure that is has been saved as a.index.html folder. You will then need to right click with your mouse on this folder and choose to open it with NVU. Once in NVU, select the ‘source view’ tab and locate where your video is situated. You will need to insert some text, any text right before the ends and then select the ‘normal view’ tab where you will see the exact spot where you will be placing your redirect link. The final step is to highlight the text you just entered and select ‘link’; insert your redirect link and press ‘ok’ and save. To test if it is working properly, just right click on the index.html folder and choose to open it with whichever internet browser you normally use. Provided you have followed through the steps accurately, you should be able to see your finished flash video with the redirect link placed below it.

With entrepreneurs and small businesses rushing to join the Online Video Revolution and get video on their websites, they often forget one key fact: You can’t add video to your website, until you have the video!

If you want to turn your website in a TV channel, here are some video production basics to get you on your way. Fortunately, with today’s easy access to video production tools, creating a great video is well within your reach.

The three stages of video production are:

o Pre-production – Planning, writing, scheduling, location scouting and all of the preparation and details before a frame of video is ever shot.

o Production – The actual video shoot. Depending on your needs and budget, this could be anything from a home camcorder shoot to a multi-camera Hollywood extravaganza. For this reason, it’s hard to generalize about how much a video spot will cost.

o Post-production – While on the shoot, you may hear the common refrain, “We’ll fix it in post.” Post is where everything comes together to produce the video – editing, graphics, music, titles, voice over, special effects and, eventually, a “final cut.”

As you plan your video production, keep the following 5 steps in mind:

1. Set clear goals

Know and communicate your marketing objective. Determine your budget and develop a plan. What do you hope to achieve with your video? Where, when and how frequently will it run? For a handy (and free) Video Planning Questionnaire, visit http://www.MuddyDogMedia.com.

2. Determine your target audience

Who are you trying to reach, and will your message resonate with your intended audience? Is the video specifically for the web, or for broadcast television? With video for the web, you’ve got a lot more flexibility when it comes to cost and quality.

3. Consider your content

Craft your message and determine your content. Be sure to refine your script and storyboard – a visual representation of each shot in your ad – until you’re convinced the video is ready to shoot. If you’re not a copywriter, consider hiring an ad agency or a freelance copywriter to craft your script. To locate an ad agency or a copywriter, visit adagencydirectory.com or guru.com.

4. Plan your shoot

You’ll need to decide on the “creative” for your video production. Considerations include tone, pacing, mood, style, music, etc. Should it be humorous? Dramatic? Animated? The clearer your vision before the shoot, the better television you’ll ultimately produce. The television marketing and promotion pros at Promax.org are some of the best “promo producers” in the world. 5. Fix it in post

Post production is “where the magic happens.” Edit the footage from your shoot, adding music, graphics, effects and finishing touches. Hire a pro editor, or do it yourself with a program as simple as Apple’s iMovie, or Adobe Premiere for the PC. Many states offer directories of local production specialists; do a Google search on “video production” or “commercial production” with your state or city.

Follow these five steps, and you’ll be on your way to producing a compelling video that can enhance your image, build your brand and boost your business!

Some final video production tidbits…

o If you do decide to go it alone, creative is still key. A good idea with lower production values is still better than a slick ad that doesn’t drive home your message.

o New software called “Visual Communicator” from Serious Magic allows you to create pro videos with just a webcam and some pre-packaged graphics and effects.

o Some local TV stations will provide commercial production services for an additional fee when you buy an ad schedule.

o Think about other “venues” for your finished TV ad, such as streaming video on your website.
